“Say cheese on three: one, two, three.” FLASH. “Next please.”
Yearbooks come around every year and everyone is expected to buy one. But what happens after you graduate from school and look back? Are they pictures from the past or are they moments you’d like to forget?
Some people are terrified when they open their yearbooks realizing it’s something they’d like to hide.
“I remember there was this one picture of me where everyone was smiling and I was falling in midair,” said Freshmen Amber Gonzalez. “Everyone laughed when they saw it. It was pretty embarrassing.”
Others feel accomplished or happy to see their picture in the yearbook and will remember the moment always
“I play a lot of sports and love seeing my picture in the sports section. It makes me feel proud,” said Ciaira Bresino.
A few kids are able to laugh at themselves and not be embarrassed. They see their picture as something they will adore for years.
“It was about 7th grade when my yearbook picture came out with one of my eyes halfway closed. I remember laughing so hard and telling myself this would be a funny picture to show,” said Sara Ramon.
Most people love seeing an embarrassing picture of someone or themselves in the yearbook just to get a good laugh.
“I’ve never actually had and embarrassing photo, but I have made someone else take an embarrassing picture, such as tripping someone during a photo,” said Wyatt Keller.
Yearbooks have stood the test of time. Many teachers enjoy looking thorough their yearbooks to see how things were so different when they were in high school.
“I remember back when I was in high school, for basketball, the shorts to our uniforms were super short,” said Aaron Moss, Athletic Trainer. “I still like to look back at those pictures from time to time and laugh while remembering the best years.”
Yearbooks can also be very memorable because it can show your changes through your years of school.
“To this day I remember all of the different hairstyles I went through when I was in school. Each year my picture had a completely different hairstyle,” said Mrs. Longoria, World Geography teacher and JV Red Softball Coach.
For the Rattler staff, creating the yearbook is a job they take seriously. From developing a theme to making sure every group and team gets their picture taken, the job of a yearbook staff member is never ending.
“It’s a lot more work than more people realize, but the yearbook staff enjoys it,” said Senior Amanda McCoy, yearbook staff member.
Yearbook are usually delivered the second week of May, making the end of the school year a little more real.
“I buy my yearbook every year because it’s the pictures of me and my friends that I will hold forever,” said Tiffany Ochoa.
Yearbooks are history books. When you look back at them twenty years from now you’ll smile and laugh. Yearbooks help you to never forget.
