The STORM club is really the first of its kind at Sharyland. A club for those interested to learn about and discuss comic books, manga, video games, trading cards etc. STORM stands for Stories Told Over Respective Mediums, which basically means comic books, video games, etc.
The meetings are fun and can be a bit hectic, but what you learn will certainly interest you. There are roughly 150 members in total. The club was thought up by Jesus Lopez, the President and Mario Perez, the Vice President. The other officers are Manny Diaz. Historian, Mario Poire, Secretary, and Nick Flores, Treasurer. The club sponsor is English teacher Pattie Parker.
Parker was approached by Jesus and Mario last May with the idea. She said it seemed interesting and felt like there was a need for something like it on campus. Her role is to basically supervise over the meets and offer advice when necessary. Interesting enough she is entering into the scene and is learning a lot about the culture and sees why students are interested.
Jesus and Mario Perez were both fans of manga, comic books, and video games and found it difficult to find people who were also fans, so they decided to start a club to find other fans and also spread the fan base and get more people interested.
In the future they also plan on discussing video games like Assassins Creed and Gears of War. They also plan on discussing science fiction items such as Star wars. Once they’re through with intros they will go into more detail of the topics. So far the club has discussed both Marvel and DC comics, Dragonball Z, FullMetal Alchemist.
The club meets every Tuesday in the Old library in the Main building after schools at 4:15. The only requirement to be in the club is to just show up. The STORM club is the first of its kind and many hope it will last for future years so even more students can enjoy it.
