In order to raise funds for senior scholarships, NHS held a 5k Run/Walk at the stadium on Saturday, January 15th.

Senior Hunter Overly organized the event.  “Putting on any type of event,” said Hunter, “requires in-depth planning and leadership capability.”

NHS will be hosting more fundraisers this year for scholarships. The number and amount of scholarships available will depend on how much money is made as the year progresses.

According to Mrs. Lisa Lopez-Cantu, NHS advisor, approximately 50 people participated.  The event was planned by students and it is not yet clear if the event will return next year

Cross-Country and Track coach, Sandra Guerrero donated ribbons for the winners and had her kids participate.  Other volunteers who helped make this event a success were Anna Garza, Nicole Cruz, SHS JROTC and Mr. Robert Rodriguez, Mrs. D. Chapa, Officer Ramirez and Mission Police Department, and Coach Thompson.

Senior Andrea Rocha, who also helped out during the event supplying water and food, had her doubts about the turn out because of inclement weather. “Although it was a cold and rainy morning,” she said, “overall, we had a pretty good turnout.”
