Music and art are a big factor in today’s society. Of course you hear about many music festivals, but there is one festival that stands out: Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CA.

“I hear about it all the time, and it sounds so interesting that I always have the urge to attend,” said sophomore Ailyn Amaya.

Statistics show that in Coachella 2012, it rank in approximately $47,313,403 in ticket sales for both weekends and included an attendance of 158,387 people.

Many of the attendees for Coachella include A-list celebrities like Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Selena Gomez, Beyoncé and even more. The performances are also a major contribution to this festival.

“I remember last year Daft Punk and Kendrick Lamar performed, and I totally wished I could have been there,” said freshman Santiago Hinojosa.

The music festival also has its certain dress code. You don’t have to follow it, but many people coordinate their outfits according to the festival.

“Coachella is known for not only the music portion but also the art portion. The people attending the festival have certain outfits. Sort of like an Indie type of fashion and I honestly love it,” said freshman Priscila Valdez.

This annual festival takes place in Indio, California and usually in the second and third weekend of April.

“If I had the opportunity to attend Coachella I would because in all honesty it’s a once in a lifetime chance, and I really love music festivals,” said sophomore Grecia Cuervo.

In the valley we have a local music festival called Never Say Never Festival. It’s held on the week of Spring Break in Mission, TX. It brings bands of different genres and has about 20 performers with 2 different stages.

“I went last year (2012) and I had an awesome time. I got to meet some of my favorite artists, and it’s definitely an experience I will never forget,” said junior Kevin Reyes.

Besides the celebrities and the fashion, the main point of Coachella is to appreciate the different genres of music. Since it’s a three day, type of festival, they have different artists singing on all three days.

“Coachella is a type of festival many people dream of going. I myself want to personally attend this festival and I hope to do so in the nearby future,” said Priscila.
